South Carolina 811

“Call before you dig”
South Carolina 811 is the “call before you dig” center for the state. We take the information about upcoming excavation projects and distribute that information to the affected utility companies in an effort to keep people safe and reduce damages to underground utility lines. We are only the notification center – our member facility operators are responsible for marking their own underground utility lines.

SC811 has been committed to damage prevention since 1978 and currently operates as a not for profit organization under the Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act, which became effective in 2012. We currently serve over 250 members and by June of 2015, it will be required that all utility companies in the state be members of SC811. It doesn’t matter if you are a homeowner planting a tree or a professional excavator on an extensive job, always call 811 before any project that requires digging. For normal excavation, call 811 or enter a locate request form online at least three full business days (not counting the day the notice was submitted) before beginning your work to allow the locators time to mark the facilities. Having your underground utility lines marked before you dig is a free service. Remember, always call 811 before digging, wait the required amount of time before beginning your work, respect the marks indicating the facilities and dig carefully!
