In an effort to widen foundation for nuclear power generation industry, the provincial government already trained 86 specialists and technicians in three courses, including the course for special welders, at the Global Nuclear Training Center (GNTC). The GNTC was established to educate a variety of specialists in nuclear power technology, ranging from experts with doctoral degrees to technicians. The local government is also conducting a feasibility study to establish an educational organization for training international nuclear power technicians by investing a total of 60.7 billion won in compliance with the policy of expanding export of nuclear power plants, such as export of such plants to the United Arab Emirates.

And it laid a foundation for attracting nuclear power-related companies by establishing the comprehensive support center for nuclear power plant equipment and materials in the future as the provincial government is selected as an organization for implementing the comprehensive support program for nuclear power plant equipment and materials(with budget of 4.2 billion won) provided by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy to boost nuclear power plant equipment and material industry. Specifically, the provincial government decided to set up an advanced nuclear power technology research center at Dongguk University’s Gyeongju campus with central government’s support of 3.5 billion won over 5 years to come to develop original technologies related to disintegrating and decontaminating nuclear power plants as well as to train experts.
