Smart Sprayer
The Smart Sprayer uses a sensor to detect plants and adjust flow to nozzles.
A multi-state team from the USDA/ARS Application Technology Research Unit in Ohio, Ohio State University, Oregon State University, and the University of Tennessee are conducting research to evaluate intelligent spray systems in nursery production. The Smart Sprayer uses a laser sensor to detect height, width, and volume of the plants in the row. The sprayer then uses that information to vary the flow of pesticides from nozzles during applications. The Smart Sprayer reduces the volume of pesticide applied to a crop while maintaining the same level of control.
