Northwest Metalcraft (Chicago Gas Lines)

Chicago Gas Lines is a division of Northwest Metalcraft.
Northwest Metalcraft, one of Arlington Heights’ oldest family-owned and operated businesses, began selling patio furniture 60 years ago. In 1945, newlyweds Ed and Irene Mayer moved to the family farm, just off Arlington Heights Road. In the barns behind the old house, Ed began an ornamental iron shop. When Irene decided she wanted to have a lawn set, her husband bought her one in downtown Chicago. Soon after, a passer-by (on the then two lane Arlington Heights Road) asked if the set was for sale, Ed sold it for more than he paid. The next week Ed took his truck and picked up four more lawn sets.

Chicago Gas Lines is a division of Northwest Metalcraft, which is a family operated business since 1945. Founded by Ed and Irene Mayer, Northwest Metalcraft began selling outdoor furniture, and quickly expanded to selling fireplaces and fireplace accessories. In the early 1960's, George Stephens, the founder of Weber Grills, approached Ed to sell his product. Since then, Northwest Metalcraft has expanded to sell various grills and grilling accessories, fireplaces, custom fireplaces and mantles, gas logs, mailboxes, and outdoor furniture.
