Environment for the Americas

CONSERVATION - COMMUNITY - DIVERSITY
EFTA coordinates the largest conservation-focused migratory bird event in the Western Hemisphere, World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD). Our work connects diverse people to birds and unifies our voices for conservation. Learn more at www.environmentamericas.

Mission:
Environment for the Americas (EFTA) works in diverse communities throughout the Western Hemisphere to motivate bird conservation. EFTA connects people to conservation and introduces the next generation of diverse conservationists to careers in natural resources by providing internship opportunities in national parks, wildlife refuges, and in urban centers, working especially with underserved youth.

Environment for the Americas was created because of the success of International Migratory Bird Day, a program that was created by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center in Washington, D.C. Program coordination was transferred to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the mid-1990's. In 2005, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation transferred the project responsibility to EFTA. This year, EFTA joined the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) to create a single, global bird conservation education campaign, World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD).
