One Minute Flowering Lawn Install
Flowering lawn transformation; how to create a flowering lawn with clover, self-heal, and creeping thyme. This DIY video walks you through a flowering lawn transformation. Adding low growing wildflowers to your lawn is easy and shown in detail with step by step instructions. Flowering "bee lawns" or "pollinator lawns" are a natural alternative to conventional grass lawns that attract pollinators, reduce lawn maintenance, reduce fertilizer and watering needs and create a safe place for kids, pets, and beneficial pollinators like butterflies and bees.

  • Step 1: Mow lawn as short as possible at 1-2" and remove large clumps of grass clippings or rake off to the side.
  • Step 2: Spread each seed packet separately by hand using about half of the seed walking one direction back and forth over the entire area and then use the other half of the seed walking a perpendicular direction back and forth so that you have fully and evenly spread the seed over the entire area.
  • Step 3: Lightly rake the area with either a metal hard tine rake or a leaf rake to scratch the soil surface and turn the seed into the soil to incorporate it and create good seed to soil contact. (If you raked the clippings off to the side before, you can spread those evenly back over the top of the seeded area now) Be sure to lightly water the area as needed 1-3 times per day for the first few weeks and then as needed through periods of heat and drought top prevent the seedlings from completely drying out. Also be sure to continue to maintain a mowing height of 3 inches for the first full year to prevent the existing grass from over-crowding the new seedlings.
