Honoring Those Who Have Passed
Message from Mel Toellner:
It is with sad heart that I take a moment to make sure all who receive our emails are aware of the passing of 2 gentlemen who were of great service to the birding industry, and in particular our family business.
I owe Terry Allen (Founder of For the Birds) a thank you for making me aware of the passing of Bill Thompson. Bill passed away back on March 25 after battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since his diagnoses on December 16. Most of you knew Bill and his wife Julie through their work on the Bird Watchers Digest and related publications, and events. Our family know him and his family as honest and hard working people who have supported our family businesses, and we will miss Bill.
I am also saddened to report that Ross Hawkins who was the Founder and Executive Director of the Hummingbird Society, passed away on July 8. Many of you met Ross at our Wild Bird Expo where he had a booth, and put on presentations over the years. Our family since appreciated his help and support, and he will be dearly missed.

This Week's Spiritual Movement:
Visiting Pastor Story
A while back I read a story of a visiting pastor who attended a men's breakfast in the middle of a rural farming area of the country.
The group had asked an older farmer, decked out in bib overalls, to say grace for the morning breakfast.
"Lord I hate buttermilk", the farmer began. The visiting pastor opened one eye to glance at the farmer and wonder where he was going. The farmer loudly proclaimed, "Lord I hate lard". Now the pastor was growing concerned. Without missing a beat, the farmer continued "And Lord, you know I don't much care for raw white flour". The pastor once again opened an eye to glance around the room and saw that he wasn't the only one to feel uncomfortable.
Then the farmer added, "But Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I do love warm fresh biscuits. So Lord, when things come up that we don't like, when life gets hard, when we don't understand what you're saying to us, help us to just relax and wait until you are done mixing. It will probably be even better than biscuits, Amen".
Within that prayer there is great wisdom for all when it comes to complicated situations like we are experiencing in the world today.
